On Sunday 27th April, the Widows Son – Sussex Chapter enjoyed a fantastic day out to Newlands Corner in Surrey. We all set off together and, true to form, Google Maps decided we needed a bit of an adventure, taking us on the scenic route through the countryside. It only added to the spirit of the day, with a good bit of banter along the way as we racked up a few extra miles under the sun.
The weather could not have been better. It was hot and sunny, and by the time we arrived, Newlands Corner was already alive with the sound and sight of hundreds of bikes. The car park was packed with an impressive range of machinery, from modern sports bikes to classic cruisers, making it a real feast for the eyes.

After parking up and admiring the other bikes, we headed to the café for some well-earned food and cold drinks. The relaxed setting gave everyone a chance to catch up, swap stories, and share a laugh or two. With the panoramic views over the Surrey Hills as our backdrop, it reminded us how much days like these mean – bringing together not just a love of bikes, but also the deeper bond of brotherhood.
The Widows Sons is about more than just riding. As Freemasons, we carry with us the values of fellowship, support, and charity, and days like this strengthen those ties. It is always good to see newer members settling in alongside longer-standing brothers, with the same warm welcome offered to all. Our shared values are what set us apart, making every ride not just a journey on the road but part of a much bigger journey together.
After a good few hours of food, laughs, and plenty of bike admiration, we set off once again, riding home with the sun still shining and spirits high.
If you are a Freemason who rides and you are thinking about joining a group that offers not just great days out but real camaraderie, you would be warmly welcomed in the Sussex Chapter. There is always room for more bikes, more banter, and more brothers on the road.
